About
Everybody answers the first question, what happened. This site answers the second one, what it’s doing to you.
The news industry is enormous and competent and it is occupied entirely with the first question. It will tell you what happened, who did it, and who should get blamed, in more detail and at more hours of the day than any one person can absorb. It has no way at all of telling you what all of that is doing to the person reading it, and honestly it isn’t trying to.
That’s the gap this site works in. One thing from the day’s news, and then the question underneath it. What is this doing to your sleep, to your marriage, to the thing you keep checking when you should be asleep, and what should you actually do about that today.
What this site won’t do
It won’t tell you who is right. On any story where people are angry at each other, this site writes about the anger and leaves the argument alone, because nobody needs another voice in that argument and adding one would make everything else here useless.
It also won’t pretend nothing is wrong. Some fears are proportionate. Some losses are real losses, and counsel that starts by telling you your problem is imaginary has already failed.
You’ve already read the hot takes and the debunkings, so nothing on this site is written as though you hadn’t. That would be a waste of your time.
And every page ends with something to do. Fear that has nowhere to go just circles, so each page finishes with a few boring, concrete things you can do today, and none of them is “stay informed.”
Where it comes from
This is written from a Christian conviction and it doesn’t hide that. Fear and anger have causes, and in my experience Scripture speaks about those causes with a lot more precision than most people expect. You’ll find that here plainly and without apology.
You’ll also find a hard limit stated on every page it applies to. When a problem is medical, it is medical, and telling somebody to pray harder about what might be a thyroid problem is cruel, whatever verse you attach to it. This site sends people to physicians and says so plainly. Anybody unwilling to name the edge of his own competence has no business giving counsel.
The format
One page every 24 hours. Each page is built in 4 movements, what happened, what it’s doing, where the ground is, and what to do today, and each one is written so that it still works a year after its headline is gone.
Every page ends. There’s no infinite scroll and nothing marked next-up, because a site about the reading you can’t stop shouldn’t behave like a feed.
Numbers
Every figure gets checked against its original source before it appears. Where a number can’t be verified it gets left out, and where the honest answer is that nobody knows, the page says so.
